Dollar Store DIY Challenge: From shabby To Chic

Dollar Store DIY Challenge: From shabby To Chic
After seeing a few of these videos on the inter-webs, I was curious to give the Dollar Store DIY Challenge a go. I thought that it would be fun to put a “LorenzoDiyz” spin on it. The creators of these videos seemed to have the same idea in mind – Budget “Beauty Room” Décor.

If you prefer a written tutorial, I have listed materials and steps below (scroll down)

Materials: RUSTOLEUM SPRAY PAINT & PRIMER IN GOLD, FLOOR PAINT COVER (A PLASTIC BAG OR OLD BOX WILL SUFFICE), PICTURE FRAMES, CANVAS WALL DECOR OR, PLAIN CANVASES, WALL DECALS OR STICKERS
Total Cost: $6* + Tax - (owned nails, paint, hammer, nails, and floor protector)
Time Spent: 1 ½ Hours – Time Breakdown >> You’ll need at least 1 hour of drying time, and 30 mins or less you can arrange, assemble and hang your frames.

S t e p s

1.         Lay a protective cover on the floor to avoid painting the floor (a plastic bag, pee pad, or old box will suffice)
2.         Disassemble the frames. Grab the glass, picture and back of frame placing it to the side for later use.
3.         Time to paint! Taking one frame at a time, lay flat on protective cover and begin painting.
*Follow the instructions on the paint can for painting and drying. To be on the safe side you can give the frames an hour to dry assuming they are small to medium frames.
4.         If you have more than one frame repeat steps 2 & 3, otherwise continue to step 5.
5.         Let's Decorate! Take those wall decals/stickers out. (Seeing as I liked three out of the 4 images on the frames, I only needed one for this project). I cut around two words, peeled the paper backing, then applied to the back of one of the stock photos that came with the frame.
6.         Check your frames -  assuming they are now ready, assemble the frames. (all the items that go in the frame + sealing up the back)
7.         Mounting your frames – get your nails and hammer ready.
